Though stimulating a small business can be a trying endeavor, UCF is doing its part to help ambitious businesses rise to the occasion.

The Small Business Development Center at UCF, with the help of its new Growth Acceleration Program, have aided Hernon Manufacturing, a company that sells high performance adhesives and sealants, in their pursuits of growth and expansion.

Introduced by the SBDC at UCF in March 2011, the Growth Acceleration Program provides an in-depth consultation of a client’s business in areas such as marketing and business development, strategic planning and assessing capital.

Though Hernon Manufacturing has been a client of the SBDC at UCF since April 1998, the company feels that it was its participation in the Growth Acceleration Program that really made the difference.

“The SBDC at UCF’s Growth Acceleration services have been an important ingredient in putting Hernon’s expansion on the fast track,” said Harry Arnon, CEO of Hernon Manufacturing. “We had aggressive growth goals to begin with and, thanks to the help of the SBDC’s growth acceleration consultants, have met and surpassed them.”

Hernon Manufacturing recently entered a new distribution agreement with Miller Bearings, which will distribute Hernon products to 17 locations throughout Florida. Also, in just the past three months, Hernon Manufacturing has gained more than $1 million in contracts to deliver equipment to some of the world’s largest defense contractors.

Arnon, who has been with the company since its start in 1979, went on to say how essential programs like the Growth Acceleration Program are to all small businesses that are looking to grow and develop.

“Small businesses don’t have enough financial expertise after a certain period of time,” Arnon said. “You can grow to a certain plateau, but to overcome that, you need certain tools like the ones UCF provides.”

Jill McLaughlin, an SBDC at UCF Growth Acceleration Services consultant, worked closely with Hernon in 2011. After witnessing the company’s growth and success, McLaughlin feels that the consultation paid off. ”

They are very focused on their growth,” McLaughlin said. “With our assistance, they continue to grow rapidly.”

Central Florida adhesive and dispensing equipment manufacturer to build sealant dispensing and UV curing machine for defense contractor

Sanford, FL. – Hernon Manufacturing, the innovator in adhesive and sealing technologies, has recently confirmed receipt of a signed contract order for its environmental sealing and UV curing machine for a defense contractor.

The dispensing machine, the Auto Sealer 5500 series, will be custom built to meet the assembly line specifications for a leading defense contractor in the United States.  The equipment is expected to be built, installed and operational for the customer’s production line by mid 2012.

“Hernon Manufacturing has established itself as a leader in the adhesives and dispensing equipment manufacturing sectors,” said Harry Arnon, CEO of Hernon Manufacturing.  “Our customers report that our products and equipment reduce production costs and time, while increasing the accuracy and quality of the finished products.”

The Auto Sealer 5500 series of machines are capable of sealing various components on a single machine.  In 15 minutes or less, the conveyor belt can be easily changed to accommodate the different parts.  In a simultaneous process, the Auto Sealer dispenses sealant, performs vision systems inspections and UV curing.  More than 200 pieces can be processed per minute.

“Working closely with our customer, we were able to identify the unique requirements and constraints of their production process to develop and manufacture a custom dispensing and curing system,” explains Arnon.

Within the last three months, Hernon has received over one million dollars in contracts to deliver high speed application and inspection equipment to some of the world’s largest defense contractors.

“Hernon is a world innovator offering total solutions, including the chemistry of its products and the engineering of its dispensing equipment,” add Arnon.  “We are capable of meeting any requirements from small to large automated systems.”

In addition to custom and standard dispensing and curing equipment, Hernon Manufacturing produces and distributes an extensive line of ammunition sealants for military and commercial use.  Hernon produces eight Mil-Spec qualified sealants and is an ISO-9001: 2008 registered company.

Sanford, FL., – Hernon Manufacturing, the innovator in adhesive and sealing technologies, recently announced it has leased an additional 3,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space to facilitate its rapid growth.

Currently, Hernon is housed in a 27,000 square-foot facility in which they produce over 5,000 high performance adhesives and sealant products as well as manufacture precision dispensing equipment.
